Without this, and with updated gnulib, "make syntax-check" would fail, complaining about exit(1), exit(0), exit(77). It's no big deal, but slightly better for readability to use EXIT_SUCCESS, EXIT_FAILURE, and the new, made-up/defined EXIT_AM_SKIP. The only semantic change was to convert the "exit(2)" and "exit(3)" in tests/conftest.c to "exit(EXIT_FAILURE);".
