Libvirt exists for providing back-compat glue.  The following
combinations are supported:

old libvirt, old qemu
new libvirt, old qemu
new libvirt, new qemu

and it is only this combination that might require a libvirt upgrade to
work correctly:

old libvirt, new qemu
