Generally, modern OS's won't work very well if you disable acpi.  The ability to
shut it off is generally used for compatibility with older OS's, although there
are other reasons to occasionally use it (you could workaround the recent KVM
time drift problems by shutting off ACPI, for example).

So you should always enable acpi unless you have a good reason not to.
