In the impl of XDR, a 'long' is encoded as a 32-bit integrate, regardless of what the C 'long' data type is. Furthermore, 'long' is actually deprecated because its pointless having 'long' and 'int' being the same. I'd still like to know what the compile failure you get is. If Mac OS is merely missing the definition of the 'xdr_hyper' function, it is quite possibly we could write a compatability function to make it work correctly.
