Just for the record, I ended up discussing this with Felipe on #boxes channel.
So, for systems where the variant-id doesn't make sense, GNOME Boxes
could simply use "name version (arch)".

Felipe will submit patches for the variant-id, basically to cover
Ubuntu, AltLinux and also fixing the name in the Debian case.
