Does anyone actually want to review any of this series, or would
you rather I just pushed it as is ?   I think the first few patches
in the series and last few patches in the series have interesting
changes that merit review. I understand if no one wants to review
the big split patches in the middle :-)

I don't want to leave it out tree for too long as rebasing it
after changes are made to the DB is seriously painful.
