I think this will help us/users running > pre-release ISOs. I'm not sure i like this idea. As it stands each OS instance uniquely refers to a specific OS release and once matched will never change. This "wildcard" entry however will have constantly changing match semantics which I don't find too appealing really. If an application records this OS ID in some persistent data storage, this will become invalid over time which I don't think is good.
