Ok I made some progress, I changed the filesystem type to ext2 and
anaconda mounts it fine. Even though the ext3 module is there it doesn't
seem to know to load it. I can work with this now, worst case, use
ext2 then convert to ext3 later or something.

phew, what a load off my mind!
