Not sure if this will help or not, but when I use text, I also have to
use nofb in order to connect over the virtual console port on the HP DL
servers.

boot: text nofb yadda.yadda.yadda

This is a known issue:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=185840

Either comment out the xconfig line in your kickstart, or do a graphical
install.
