If you are running Fedora Core 3, this may be due to a
bug in a version of the udev subsystem (device manager
which creates device nodes as needed). See
http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/mjm-fedora-fc3.shtml#cdrom
for a quick note on this.

If you are not running Fedora Core 3, then delete this
post!
