I realize this is confusing. Let me try again...

The precision machines, with their onboard NICs fail when talking to
netgear equipment. However, the failure is not what I'd expect for
network incompatability. They get dhcp, they ping. They claim http
fails, but they send no packets, and drop into manual mode. From
manual mode, http works fine.
