The client system has two NIC's. The one on the motherboard is disabled. The server has only one NIC.

I might add that the interactive session that pops up when the kickstart fails seems to go smoothly. I.e., there seems to be no confusion at that point as to the location of the server, and the relevant file system gets mounted via NFS. It's possible to drop into the shell (CTRL-ALT-F2) and examine a copy of the kickstart file that a minute earlier could not be found.
