Sorry, but Im still a bit of a newbie with some of this stuff. Should adding this under the packages section work?

%packages --ignoredeps
-packagename acl-2.2.3-1
-packagename anacron-2.3-25
-packagename apmd-3.0.2-18

It doesnt seem to.

But you can specifically exclude items you don't want
by specifying them with -packagename and get the list
back down to something smaller.

I got about 75 packages out of my minimal installation
that way...

@Base gets installed no matter what in a kickstart.
