right, so if I specify a really big ramdisk_size,
I'm in good shape and I won't have to predict
how RedHat changes the required ramdisk_size
in future releases (?)

Your ramdisk_size definitely matters: it has to be big enough to hold
the stage two image.  But that's all it has to hold, AFAIK.
