Remember at the time you're doing this, the system isn't very well
configured.

Show us the full commands, not just your summaries.

Try using IP address, not host names. I've managed to get this info in
the past by examining /proc/mounts



Take a look at /etc/resolv.conf in the environment (chroot or not) where
you're trying to do these things.
