I'd like each machine to do an update > post > install. Why not setup kickstart over nfs, then you could add the updates before you load a single box. To keep them in sync, I'd look at running a local RPM repository and updating against that. I use yum (http://www.dulug.duke.edu/yum/) for my needs.
