>From your description, I think you need to run 'genhdlist' (from the
anaconda-runtime package) to update $mp/RedHat/base/hdlist
and $mp/RedHat/base/hdlist2 after you replace one or more rpm files
in the $mp/RedHat/RPMS directory.

Usage is:

    /usr/lib/anaconda-runtime/genhdlist $mp

(In all cases $mp == path to where you've installed the RedHat
directory.)

You probably also want to check permissions on the hdlist files
afterwards to make sure the installer can still read them.
