Missing module-info

Perhaps someone ecountered this problem...

I've had to build a customized version of redhat to install on our
systems here. I was successful with 6.2, but now I want to upgrade to
7.2.

First I found that the aic7xxx module included in the default boot.img
is broken. So I have been working to build a custom boot-kernel based on

the newest stable kernel release (2.4.18)

To sum up, the current problem I have run into:

My initrd.img contains modules/module-info, but upon booting, it
complains it cannot find module-info and exits.

Whats up with this?

any info would be appreciated, thanks
