though I was lossing my flaming marbles for a minute,
i've just built the blinking floopy to test it to :-(

excellent though thanks for the laugh it's been a hard day we lost a server
due to a hardware fault so I spent the day on my knees praying to a NAS.

I think I know what is happening.  My machine is getting *sometimes* an
address from a Microsoft dhcp server.  Strange thing is that it doesn't
always work.  Just tried it now.
