kickstart using configs on cdrom

Is there a known problem with reading kickstart config files from the cdrom
in RH7.1?

I seem to recall something on the list a while ago but I can't find it.

I would like to burn a cdrom with several different configs.
e.g.
custom/ks1.cfg
custom/ks2.cfg
custom/ks3.cfg
custom/ks4.cfg

And be able to boot with
linux ks=cdrom:/custom/ks1.cfg

When I run this I get an error accessing the cdrom before the install
actually starts.
I am not sure if the kickstart file is read or not. I get the error before
the bash shell is spawned on pty2.

If this is a known problem can I solve with updates? Any sugested
workarounds? I could add the ks files to the boot images but the space is
tight.
