Don't know if this will help but... Before building your boot modules
try loading your kernel config from:
/usr/src/linux-2.4/configs/kernel-2.4.2-i386-BOOT.config
(doing a "make mrproper" before and a "make dep modules" after).
This will solve the versioning missing symbol issues for the boot floppy
modules (if that is what you meant).
