Thanks for takin a peek... indeed curl works as well as wget, guess I was being a bit lazy at the time and figured I'd mention it.

Looking at the server config for hosted, there's a RemoveEncoding .gz
line, but only for files that match *.gz.asc, which is probably the
reason for this.

You can grab the file via curl though.
