Seth - Yes, I have confirmed the following
I should note that our domain is non standard.. i.e the domain is "company.prod".. would that have any issues with the master/minions ? Thx.

Have you signed the certs from the certmaster?

funcd could be trying to get the signed cert back and not able to yet.

Also are you sure that your minion can reach/communicate with the
certmaster?
