It does seem to be specific to how Opera interacts with httpd.

I don't understand the problem, but know how to fix it. When using Opera and having it default to HTTP/1.0 then connect to a stock RHEL4 box, that image breaks. On RHEL5 (which both of our proxy servers will be in a day or two), it works fine. Call it crazy computer voodoo.
