enabled and active are distinct things.

In "systemctl status", look at the Loaded line: it indicates if the unit is
enabled or disabled.

Example for sshd:

  systemctl -n 0 status sshd
  sshd.service - OpenSSH server daemon
       Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/sshd.service; enabled; preset: enabled)
      Drop-In: /usr/lib/systemd/system/service.d
               └─10-timeout-abort.conf
       Active: active (running) since Thu 2025-02-27 16:06:03 CET; 2 days ago
