Hi guys.

Older GPUs, eg. GTX 16xx, with playing games in mind - will what's in Fedora repo's/kernels do or should Nvidia's driver/software be installed?

Use Nvidia's site to determine the status of your card on linux and the current version of the Nvidia driver.
Fedora can't (ask the lawyers) package Nvidia drivers, so you have to install them from the rpmfusion site
(there are other sites that package Nvidia drivers, but most users should stick with rpmfusion as there is
large community of users who share the same packages and can help if you encounter problems.

Nvidia kernel modules have to be built anew for each new kernel version.  See
<https://rpmfusion.org/Howto/NVIDIA> for instructions.   Note that many
users have experienced problems due to rebooting before the build is complete.
5 minutes is usually long enough, or there are ways to track the progress of the
installation.

Nvidia hardware is "high maintenance" -- my experience has been that Nvidia
often has bugs or limits on supported linux configurations.  There are usually
delays after a new kernel is released before the Nvidia driver packages catch up.
Some delays have been due to waiting for bug fixes rather than release a package
that won;t work for some users.
