I am not using an nvidia graphics card.
I am using lightdm on four machines, now three, of my
own without issue.

By the way, it was a fc39 "dnf upgrqade" the did me.
If it nail you too, consider LXDM. It ain't pretty,
but IT WORKS!!! Easy to configure too.
