Oh, that's where it is. That apparently is the step that might have

ok, I'll try re-doing the system-upgrade. This will take a few hours.
I'll be completely offline until that's done.
I had to dnf remove jgit for the system-upgrade to work. That was true
both this morning and this evening. I assume this is not relevant.
The system-upgrade seemed to run to completion, but I could not sit with
it and watch it the whole time. I did see a vast amount of clean-up
phase warnings of no such file or directory.
After this evening's system-upgrade, I tried no post-upgrade steps.
The grub menu still has both one f-39 entry and one f-40 entry. Each
results in a console login only.
What now?
