I did try CLI on the KDE iso, no luck.
I haven't used SSH for more than a decade, so my memory is foggy. But, I seem to remember needing to configure systems to allow incoming SSH connections, first.

Have you tried to ssh to the "hung" machine from your other one?
Have youn tried switching to CLI on the "hung" machine?
