I enabled '3D Acceleration' and it worked;so there should be done a ReadMe or similar, where this should be noted, that for VMware Guests, and X the '3D Acceleration' must be enabled;
just for info: can you look, whether your VM with Arch also has '3D Acceleration' enabled
