Before retiring I worked in an environment where multiple "mission critical " python
packages were needed, often running on different python versions and OS's. Colleagues
at other labs used different linux distros, and most users were required by their employers
to have Windows. Conda environments provide a cross-platform way to deal with the diverse
application requirements and host OS's. Many application developers also adopted conda.
Calibre is available as flatpaks.
