java/javascript - multiple versions needed?

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Recently upgraded my laptop and desktop systems to F40.

Noticed that each has multiple, slightly different versions
of Java and JavaScript.

Just wondering if multiple versions is typical/necessary?

Desktop:
  java-17-openjdk-headless
  java-21-openjdk-headless

  javascriptcoregtk4.0
  javascriptcoregtk4.1
  javascriptcoregtk6.0

Laptop:
  java-1.8.0-openjdk-headless
  java-11-openjdk-headless
  java-17-openjdk-headless
  java-21-openjdk-headless

  javascriptcoregtk4.0
  javascriptcoregtk4.1
  javascriptcoregtk6.0

On the laptop, asking what requires each of the 4 java
packages (dnf repoquery --requires java...) lists the
same 24 packages for each version.
