I tested using `xev`

- Pressing: `Volume Mute Key`(as can be seen in the image of the 
keyboard)  i.e. `F1` without `fn`

```

    state 0x0, keycode 67 (keysym 0xffbe, F1), same_screen YES,

KeyRelease event, serial 38, synthetic NO, window 0x1c00001,

    XLookupString gives 0 bytes:
