I use the emacs-nox package. It provides an emacs binary, and works both interactive and over ssh. $ ls -Al $(command -v emacs) lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 23 Nov 7 19:32 /usr/bin/emacs -> /etc/alternatives/emacs $ ls -Al /etc/alternatives/emacs lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 23 Nov 7 19:32 /etc/alternatives/emacs -> /usr/bin/emacs-29.1-nox I have not encountered any problems (yet?).
