And GitHub's "jasper-software" team has now upgraded xv to handle "webp" images. You can read the details here: "https://github.com/jasper-software/xv". The upgrade has been incorporated into the RPM Fusion Nonfree repository in response to bug #6702 "https://bugzilla.rpmfusion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6702". The new xv is in release 4.1.1-1.
