I find the systemctl edit command the easy way to create the override file.
$ systemctl edit named-chroot.service
I realized shortly after sending my email that there appears to have been a memory limit set in bind directly:
// datasize 3000m;
// stacksize 3000m;
// coresize 3000m;
// stacksize 3000m;
// coresize 3000m;
I'm still checking, but I appreciate everyone contributing - I think that will also be helpful.
