Can you obtain a usb ethernet adapter to help get connected to sort out
installs for wifi?
You should also consider swapping the wifi card or a USB wifi dongle.
There are also wifi to
ethernet boxes that will allow any system with ethernet to use
wifi. Some
are sold as "wifi
externders" but include an ethernet port:

Here are a couple of low-level things to try.
lspci enumerates all the slots on the bus. There may be a hint there.
Some stuff is motherboard generic but others are device specific.
lsmod shows all the kernel modules that have been loaded. ( lspci |
sort may make it easier to look through ).
There are kernel drivers that are source that need to be compiled yes.
The usb adapter came with no instructions on how to do that and I have
no idea how too. THere must be a utility or two also that needs to be
compiled with the actualt drivers, there's a lot of code there. The
drivers is supposed to be called RT2870.ko.
