Just for info, the mounting of the removable device under
/run/media/<userid> is not Gnome specific it is also done that way under
KDE, so from that I would assume it is system wide. There are options in
system settings the specify how removable media should be handled being
(under KDE, there might be the same under Gnome system settings or via
Gnome-Tweak) "System Settings->Hardware->Removable Storage->All Known
Devices", which seems to be the only entry of the 3 where you can
control auto mounting, but the only two options for that are "On Login"
or "On Attach".
