Yes, you removed the package that would modify the contents of the file the symlink pointed to.  Your real solution was to remove the package.  Renaming a symlink does nothing.

But you're basically setting up an unmaintainable mess, something

I appreciate you not using vulgar language, but you are talking about Disney characters out of the blue, and I can only assume you're calling *ME* and my fellow Fedora users bad names.
