BUT?
Interesting. On my F36 system there is mlocate-updatedb rather than
plocate-updatedb. Looks like I have the mlocate package installed. Both
mlocate and plocate are in the repository. Is one preferred over the
other? dnf info says plocate is faster but I've never had an issue with
speed when I use the locate command.
Another check is to make sure the time is set up and running ok. A
simple systemctl status. On my system with mlocate:
sudo systemctl status mlocate-updatedb.timer
* mlocate-updatedb.timer - Updates mlocate database every day
Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/mlocate-updatedb.timer;
enabled; vendor preset: enabled)
Active: active (waiting) since Tue 2022-08-09 13:36:02 EDT; 1h
26min ago
Until: Tue 2022-08-09 13:36:02 EDT; 1h 26min ago
Trigger: Wed 2022-08-10 00:00:00 EDT; 8h left
Triggers: * mlocate-updatedb.service
You can also check the corresponding service but it does not tell you much:
sudo systemctl status mlocate-updatedb.service
* mlocate-updatedb.service - Update a database for mlocate
Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/mlocate-updatedb.service;
static)
Active: inactive (dead)
TriggeredBy: * mlocate-updatedb.timer
