Nuking is often the best solution if your config files, certs and 
whatnot are broken beyond repair. Though you often need to remove 
everything the package manager didn't touch.

I remember reinstalling php for dozens of times because I'm stupid 
enough to migrate php files from my previous Ubuntu installation 
*directly* into Fedora, making everything break loose. In this case, 
trying to figure out how to fix it is harder than reinstalling -- and I 
don't have any data to lose after all.
