If you don't edit the config fles, then NetworkManager is going to keep
"fixing" the interface.
The new location is /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/
Are you not using a graphical desktop of some sort? The network config
tool for your desktop would be the thing to use. If not, then use
"nm-connection-editor".
