There are different ways to pull mail from the MSP's imap server to your own. I happen to currently do this, with heavy filtering and folder management, via an imap client that is always up. I leave (and sometimes copying back) certain types of messages that I might need when remote on the MSP's server. Depending on my connectivity type I sometimes make my in-house server externally accessible. Once the messages are on your own server it's easy to manage things as you wish.
