Hello there,

Yes, the switch has happened indeed, since Fedora... 21?
The point I'm trying to make is, why keep yum, since the  switch to dnf has already happened?

My guess is that it to do with a lot of code expecting yum and not dnf.
At work we use different versions of Centos and they all support yum, not all support dnf.

Even yum's plugins and extra utilities are still a thing.

And the config is in /etc/yum.repos.d

On a fresh install of F34 Server I see this:

# LANG=C dnf list installed \*yum\*
Installed Packages
yum.noarch                      4.7.0-1.fc34                   @updates

# rpm -ql yum
/usr/bin/yum
/usr/share/man/man8/yum.8.gz

# ls -l /usr/bin/yum
lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 5 13. Mai 16:35 /usr/bin/yum -> dnf-3*

So, there's pretty little "yummy" stuff there. And what is there is not
much more than a pointer to dnf.
It seems, the switch to dnf you asked about has basically already happened.
