I know wireless works because I can boot the laptop to Windows 10 and it
sees the available wireless networks.
On another note the Ethernet device keeps changing name is there any way
to stop this?
Here's what it's been named so far:
enp0s20f0u1u4
enp0s20f0u5u3
enp0s20f0u1u1
enp0s20f0u3
enp55s0u2u3
The current name is enp0s20f0u1u4. Every time it changes name I have to
go fix up the DNS info.

So the appropriate wireless driver is loaded, however ifconfig shows the

Instead of using the 'ifconfig' tool, try running 'ip link show'.
Perhaps the interface is just down. Also, many Dells have a
keypress/switch to disable the wifi device, make sure it hasn't been
disabled.
(In fact, stop using ifconfig entirely on Linux, ip is a much better
tool to use these days.)
