Having begun life as a mathematician (BA 1961), I still sometimes play with numbers, whether or not I'm near a computer. I mostly start by factoring them, so that I know what I've got. But I get lost juggling more than about two or three three-digit numbers. It would be nice to have a factoring applet -- which wouldn't need to be vast nor intense enough to come anywhere near cryptographic use, but just as a mildly entertaining time waster. My guess is that it exists, and is either already in Fedora, or can be handily installed.
