True, but I want my e-mail stored and acted upon locally. In that case, I do not completely see a way out of my situation, though there are likely alternative approaches to the same problem. You can do that with IMAP as well, e.g. in Evolution there's an option to "copy folder locally for offline operation", which will take care of that automatically. Other IMAP-supporting MUAs presumably have similar features, though possibly using other terminology.
