Tim: >> I wonder how much more robust USB is than parallel? ToddAndMargo: > USB 1 never really worked very well with printers. I found that out too, though I was thinking more about electrical robustness. Back in my early days of personal computing, we learnt to never dis/connect peripherals while the equipment was powered. USB goes against that concept. > Since USB 2, I have not had printer problems with > the USB bus. I found USB 2 adequate, printers use quite a lot of data, more than a lot of people would expect, and USB 1 was never really good enough. e.g. You might think a JPEG is small data because it's only a couple of megs in filesize. But the rendered image could be tens or hundreds of megabytes. Likewise, when text is rendered as an image, rather than just sending the text. > My printer's USB 1 bus really stinks I feel that USB 1 manages keyboards and mice, but little else. -- uname -rsvp Linux 3.10.0-1127.19.1.el7.x86_64 #1 SMP Tue Aug 25 17:23:54 UTC 2020 x86_64 Boilerplate: All unexpected mail to my mailbox is automatically deleted.
