I never bothered with cheap WinPrinters---too many horror stories. Networked PS printers worked well once the appropriate PPD was installed. These days I have a printer (HP CLJ MPF M477fdw) that supports AirPrint. Set up was a breeze for CentOS, Fedora, Mac OS, iOS and Amazon Fire. Everything auto-configued. I think I've even printed from a Windows VM.
