Now the specify as "specified" device:

Okay, what am I doing wrong/misreading?

If you were to use "tab completion" you'd find that upon hitting tab after entering
nmcli device status (tab)

[root@meimei ~]# nmcli device status help
Usage: nmcli device status { help }

Show status for all devices.
By default, the following columns are shown:
  DEVICE     - interface name
  TYPE       - device type
  STATE      - device state
  CONNECTION - connection activated on device (if any)
Displayed columns can be changed using '--fields' global option. 'status' is the default command, which means 'nmcli device' calls 'nmcli device status'.

So, the command is for "all" devices.

So I misread the man page then.  Dang.

Is there a way to get just "connected" back from
nmcli?

Any way around grep and awk or Raku?

     $ nmcli device status | grep eno2 | awk '{print $3}'
    connected
